Government exists, in large part, to protect our God-given rights. Instead, it is being used to violate them. We must not allow these public servants, corporations, health boards, schools, etc. to infringe on our bodily autonomy. Who are they to call any of us non-essential? Who are they to shut our schools, churches, and businesses? Who are they to force us to wear masks and get injected against our will? Who are they to tell us how many people we can invite for dinner at Thanksgiving? As your public servant, if I am elected, I will never support any legislation or spending that will infringe on your rights. I imagine I’ll be voting NO on a lot of appropriations bills.
Currently, low unemployment is being touted by the establishment as the sign of a strong Idaho economy. Typically this is a positive economic indicator; however, in this case, it demonstrates a labor shortage. You might ask how this is possible. Recent government demands have killed many Idaho small businesses. The “Covid relief” created incentives for not working. Finally, thousands of Idahoans have left the workforce due to restrictive health mandates. Idaho’s legislature needs to stop siding with big corporations over small businesses. We cannot let Walmart be essential while our local shoe store is deemed not essential. All “bonuses” for not working need to end. And all mandates should be fully lifted so everyone can return to work confidently, regardless of their personal health choices. Senate Bill 1381 passed both the House and Senate and would have gone a long way towards this, but our Governor vetoed it.
This past session, the establishment Republicans voted on “historic” income tax relief; however, the average Idaho resident does not benefit much from this tax cut. The tax relief Idaho residents really need was shut down at every turn. I will support reducing or eliminating property taxes and repealing the grocery sales tax. These tax cuts would help ALL Idahoans and the baseline of every family budget.
